Gun Control Teen Survey
As a response to numerous tragedies involving gun violence in Grand Rapids and recent debates about Michigan’s Open Carry Law, the Grand Rapids Mayor’s Youth Council developed an online survey to gather opinions from their peers about these issues. The results from this survey along with recommendations were released to the public by 2012 – 2013 Mayor’s Youth Council President Quentin Florido on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at the Mayor’s Gun Control Task Force meeting.
The Mayor’s Youth Council consists of fifteen 9th – 12th grade students who live in Grand Rapids and represent the voice of city teens to city government so they can together plan for a better future. This program provides a hands-on, real-life experience into the inner-workings of city government. They spend time with the Mayor and other elected officials discussing issues affecting teens, participate in community service projects and field trips, and facilitate the annual KidSpeak® youth forum.
