Lights On! Afterschool Media Conference 2013
Media Conference – Lights ON!
Who: Please join the Expanded Learning Opportunities Network with the Grand Rapids Public Schools and the City of Grand Rapids for a Lights On Afterschool Media Conference
When: Wednesday, October 16; 4:30 – 5:00 pm
Where: Harrison Park School – 1440 Davis NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49503.
Why: While more than one million people celebrated Lights On Afterschool last year, nearly 15 million children are still alone and unsupervised after school. As the only nationwide rally for after school programs, youth will have a chance to demonstrate the many skills after school programs cultivate, and learn new ones. In approximately 8,000 communities nationwide, venues that value the work being done after the school bell rings will join the celebration by keeping their doors open and lights on. Grand Rapids is one of them! Hear Mayor Heartwell, Superintendent Neal, Chief Belk, Representative Brinks, parents and children speak. Receive information about where Lights On activities are going on in our community from the ELO Network.
The ELO Network is a community collaboration of over 60 organizations serving over 21,000 children at 180 sites across Kent County. They work to ensure every child has access to quality afterschool programs that ensure their success!
Our Community’s Children (OCC), a public/private partnership between the City of Grand Rapids, the Grand Rapids Public Schools and community partners. OCC facilitates the ELO Network.
